It’s so sad how I have to give this book a 3 star rating. It’s sad because I LOVED this book and was easily expecting a 4 star read. Only for everything to come crashing down at 80% in…buckle in, this is a long one!

Let’s start with what I liked about the book. The length made me weary because I have a hard time with bigger books as it is, but a romcom to boot was a hard pick for me. I ended up liking that it was long because it gave so much time for the relationship between our FMC (Briana) and our MMC (Jacob) to really be fleshed out. We got to see them together an lot. Also the author wrote this as a fast paced romcom and I like those because I want to get to the juicy bits faster when the two MCs are really clicking. As fast paced as it was, it was also a slow burn between the two MCs, to me it felt more realistic and fed more into their storyline. And lastly the depiction of various mental illnesses, in depth, is something I don’t see much at all in reading. I liked that the author did a lot of proper research on this. So many people deal with various ailments that we do not know and this book perfectly illustrated that. The way I connected to Jacob made me reflect on so many things.

And here comes why this book ended up going from a 4 star read to a 3 star read for me….

We literally get to watch our Briana and Jacob fall madly and DEEPLY in love for the entire story. Only for the FMC to do a 180°? What was that about?? I was livid! I was already irritated with the miscommunication trope playing out. Towards the end I was pissed Briana switched up out of the nowhere on all of us. That’s what broke my heart because even though the story ended up being a HEA, it was done so in such a clumsy way. The way that third act Briana was behaving made me almost stop reading because I was so frustrated with the complete 180°. I’m glad I pushed through, but this could have been processed in a different manner.
