The Crimson Petal and the White
by Michel Faber
I really liked reading this. Everyone was really interesting and well rounded. It all felt very believable. Watching the rise and fall and internal thoughts of so many characters was wonderful. I highlighted so much because the writing is so gorgeous.
The lead up to the end and the end were a bit of a let down though. I’m not asking for everything to be tied off with a bow, but I like some sort of resolution; this felt like Faber didn’t know how to end it.
That said I’m really glad I read this and Faber is a wonderful writer. I was never bored reading this and want more of this world. I am looking forward to reading the short story collection, The Apple. I think I would recommend this with the caveat that it doesn’t end very satisfactorily.
