The Madwoman of Serrano was a book that I struggled with. Not sure why. Possibly the element of magical realism, although I’m generally doing a lot better with that. It may have been the time of year - the story possibly required more concentration than I had. I did really appreciate the look at the urban-rural divide, and the examination of female power - the way of could be used, it’s strengths and it’s limitations. The role of midwives in the community was certainly eye-opening.
