I wanted to love this book, I really did!
Whilst it wasn’t love, I did still enjoy it.

Things i did love - our MMC, and the way his backstory was revealed. I feel like he was well written and fleshed out. The plot was a little messy around him but it was intriguing and kept me captivated.

Unfortunately for me I read this off the back of a quite mature, high fantasy and that made the “immaturity” aspect of the main character BLAZINGLY obvious throughout. She makes statements that are just flat out teenage like, she come across a little whiney at times and super cringey in others.

This book was a mixed bag for me, but I will still read other JH books! I’ve heard the writing only gets better with each book she’s published!
