illmethod 's review for:
The Hod King
by Josiah Bancroft
About 95% into the book I was entirely unsure how this trilogy ends. Then it ended with a cliffhanger and I realized that it was a set of 4 books with the finale to be published in 2021.
This installment has a lot to love, much like the second book, but gets weighted down by a little more world building and court intrigue than previous books. The result is a flagging pace at times but, now that I know there is a 4th book, will probably not suffer from the time taken.
I'll keep this brief and just say that the perspective choices in this book do drag out specific events but in a surprisingly satisfying way. You get to sit in your worry and suspense while learning new pieces leading up to the events of the climax. Good stuff.
I'm also starting to really like all the main characters quite a bit more. Can't wait to get the final book.
