Obsession
by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Jennifer does it again! My expectations were already pretty high for this book, I absolutely love the storyline in The Lux series, and while Obsession was written to be a companion novel geared to an older crowd I still felt like I was walking into a world I already knew.. my expectations were not only met but surpassed.
Hunter is 100% swoon worthy and Serena is amazing, sassy and confident even though her world and her life were pretty much shattering right in front her all this while being guarded by a dangerous Arum that was making no promises as to whether she would make it out this alive.
It was great to be able to see the other side of the coin in Obsession, in the Lux series we meet the Luxen and to be completely honest we meet them as this human-oppressed race that while stronger, more intelligent and powerful seems to be completely controlled by the DOD, we meet the Luxen as the pacifists and we learn about the Arum as the enemy race whose only purpose is to destroy the Luxen. Arum to me where soulless, evil creatures that were only interested in destroying and consuming the Luxen, and now we get to meet who the Arum really are and what they can be and how, like the Luxen, a human can turn their life upside down.
*** SOME SPOILERS ***
Following Hunter’s ordeal of sorts having been assigned by the DOD as Serena’s bodyguard lets you see that while it’s true that the Arum are dangerous creatures who like the Luxen are fighting a war to survive among the species in a planet that’s not theirs, they can also be human up to some extent, feel fear, love and guilt.
The Luxen don’t look like the innocent angels I thought them to be before I started reading Obsession (of course this doesn’t include Daemon, Dee, Ash, Andrew and Matthew) :D
I absolutely love (and fangirled) at the point where the two stories meet with Luc as the link in between the two, it definitely indicates (I think) that in the future Lux books we might see Hunter and Serena trying to help keep the Luxen from carrying their plans to take over the Earth and the human race.
Obsession opened even more questions about Luc that I thought I could have, there was always a mystery surrounding him but now I’m wayyyyyyy intrigued.
Obsession was hot hot hot! without getting boring and repetitive, as always Jennifer’s unbelievable talent at story telling transports you in the book and makes you experience and feel what the characters feel as you read, did I mention it’s simply impossible not falling in love with Hunter? No? Well prepare yourself because if you were in love with a Luxen, you might just find yourself in a predicament after you are done reading Obsession!
