Parnassus on Wheels by Christopher Morley
4.0

A very lively and amusing adventure! Mix a book-peddling "Professor", a much over-worked sister, and a rickety book cart to brighten your day. It's taken me a long time to finally read this book (which has been on my shelf for at least 2 years), but I'm so glad I did.

The description of Parnassus with steady and reliable Peg(asus) the Horse and Bock the dog as guardian are lovely. I could imagine every tiny part of the charming bookshop on wheels in my mind and I would jump at the chance for a weekend trip sleeping between the racks of books.

Roger Mifflin's Traveling Parnassus poem is almost my favorite part of the whole book...besides the cozy descriptions of the inside of the much-loved book cart.

Roger Mifflin and Helen McGill are a wonderful team and it was a joy to read about them in Parnassus on Wheels! If you're interested in books and old-timey adventures, you will surely enjoy this small novel.

It's not my favorite book-about-books, but I really liked it. (P.S. Also, Helen's brother Andrew, is a cranky and ungrateful old bore and I did not like him.)
