'Everyone loves an origin story,' as Simon Pegg writes in the introduction. Count me in that group of 'everyone'. The origin-story-ness of this book created and held my interest. And issue/chapter three has a couple of good twists. But I felt let down when I realized that Millar intended his characters to be the actual Biblical characters. Made it way less interesting for me.
The biggest rock in my shoe for this book was when Jodie brings the neighborhood dog back from the dead. The act draws so much energy that electrical devices all over town explode, and it blows out all of windows of the house that they're in. So that's hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage to save one dog. By what calculus is that even remotely worth it? A real reaction would be, 'Jodie what the fuck man you wrecked my house for a dog?!?' And why would a supernatural being even need the electrical grid to assist his miracles? OK, I know it was done for dramatic purposes, but I find that kind of lazy stuff terribly distracting.
