S.A, Vol. 1 by Maki Minami
5.0
Funny, smart, beautiful, and well-executed, Special A is a shoujo manga that explores that all-too common feeling within us human beings: the desire to be number one above someone else. But at what cost? Love? Confidence? Friendship? Well, that's for the next set of chapters in volume 2. Not to say that there aren't hints already.
There are stock manga rich characters: the boyish girl in with strong ties to the heroine, a set of twins, the angry goofball, the mysterious rival hero, and the cousin betrothed to said mysterious rival, to call out a few. But despite these characters and predictable moments, the story makes itself up in great dialogue and smooth storytelling. Maki Minami thought this one through, which is greatly appreciated.
Can't wait to read the next one!
