Saga of the Swamp Thing, Book 1 by Alan Moore

4.0

In which Alan Moore invents the modern American comic book.

Perhaps it's the effect of reading Moore's re-imagining of a DC also-ran horror title in discreet little packets, or the effect of already having read much of what it came to influence, but I didn't find this quite the revelatory experience I was expecting. Maybe it'll get a five star bump when I've completed the entire run.

Nonetheless, what struck me reading these first few issues was just how completely this laid the groundwork for pretty much all the Vertigo titles that would follow, and indeed many mainstream superhero comics.
