The pace is slow and meandering for the first 2/3rds and really picks up at the end. Unfortunately, a lot of the exciting bits are summarized. I like the characters most when they interact but they spend the majority of the book isolated. I'm interested to see if the next book picks back up at a faster pace or if it will spend 100 pages recounting the first book.
Minor: Animal death, Confinement, Torture, Blood, Kidnapping
