Imperial Stout by Layla Reyne

4.0

I really loved Layla Reyne Agent Irish and Whickey series, so I ignored the in-between book about Adrian's brother and Mel... Well because one is a woman. But I threw myself into the first book in Trouble Brewing series, a spin-off and hoped for the best. It wasn't the best of the best, but it was damn good. I'm just partial to Adrian and Jaimie's books.

US attorney Dominic Price - who co-owns a brewery - hence the pun in the title, has a tuff couple of days. His star witness, who might be playing a double game, has just been kidnapped, his joint operation with the FBI is in jeopardy, and his father’s shady business deals is catching up with him.
Kidnap and rescue expert Cameron Byrne - goes deep undercover in order to save Nic’s witness, and close the case before anyone else gets hurt.

Both men have a past that they try to keep hidden and Layla Reyne gives just enough hints to make it interesting, but only guessing. And of course, it is just enough to make us come back for more in the next books. And after reading Irish and Whickey, I just know that Reyne has some surprises lined up for us.

I really like Reynes writing and her characterisations. You get to love these secretive, tuff men and the way she slowly builda up their relationship. You really get a sense of their chemistry. Of course you'll get frustrated with these two men who could avoid a lot of problems if they just Talked to each other instead of chewing on each other's tools all the time. No, I'm exaggerating. One of the reasons I like Reynes writing, is because the sexing doesn't take all the attention. The focus is the story and the main characters personal growth and development. Then the hot stuff comes in second. But if only those stubborn men would learn to trust each other and stop trying to protect their secrets and each other. But alas men will always be men. And I guess that is food for the next couple of books.

The reason for not giving 5 stars is my personal, subjective preferences. I would have loved to feel the characters more. To really feel their pain and angst.

But I for one, is in no doubt that I will read the rest of this series.

This was given to me by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
