Where the Forest Meets the Stars by Glendy Vanderah
4.0
TW: Death of a loved one, depression, mention of agoraphobia, cancer
While the story and characters of this book were amazing and very well crafted, my only complaint was that Jo, our MC, had an issue with justifying Gabe and his mental illnesses. For me, I think Jo pushed him too hard and wanted him to change. While I can see that she was trying to do all of this for Gabe to better himself, I also did not agree with the way Jo's character went about it, almost invalidating his feelings and emotions. Jo, in general, tried to change everyone else but herself throughout the whole book, as the only thing that changed for her was her outlook on life after dealing with her breast cancer and meeting Ursa and Gabe.
Even though this is a harsh critique of one of the main characters, the story was still an enjoyable read and very creative. The banter was really cute and the way that the relationships grew was really beautiful and something that the author did do right.
I would recommend that anyone who wants to read this to review the TW, as there are some topics that comes up in this book that may be triggering. But I would recommend to anyone that loves cute banter, beautifully crafted relationships and a mystery that unfolds slowly.
