The people in the book were so awful that I give this a reluctant four stars. It’s the kind of guilty pleasure you get when watching a TV show like You on Netflix. Morally, the book is abhorrent, and the only reason you keep reading it is because you now know (or fiercely hope) that it’s only fiction, that in your own life, you only know good, upstanding citizens.
The twist was good. I thought I had the book figured out, but I’d fallen for the red herring. This is how I justify liking the book, because to like it for any other admittable reason would be forcing me to confess that I’m as disgusting as these characters. So I find myself saved by the twist.

Graphic: Kidnapping, Stalking, Murder
Minor: Death of parent, Sexual harassment
