This is my mom's favorite book that she gifted me years ago and I finally read it. I was intimidated by how large of a book it is and the idea of a family saga didn't sound appealing. I'm glad I finally gave it a try. The characters are so frustrating but the story is beautiful. I liked how it would zip forward in time sometimes from one paragraph to the next and didn't just have a bunch of filler to account for the time that passed.
I was pleasantly surprised that after all of the tragedy in this book that at the end a generational curse was broken and Justine was able to give herself a chance at happiness that her mother and grandmother had not had.
