Endgame: The Calling by James Frey, Nils Johnson-Shelton
4.0

I honestly do not understand how so many people call this a Hunger Games Rip-off. There are teenagers placed in a game where they need to kill each other to win. THAT IS THE ONLY SIMILARITY. And yes, of course some may compare it, they belong to the same genre, similarities are inevitable. But honestly, to me it felt more like a PG-13 or R rated 39 clues. Which, don't get me wrong, I liked. Very much.

Now to the actual review: Par one, the characters where sociopathic (and sometimes outright psychotic) and all- in one way or another- fitting into the simple cookie mold of "ruthless, merciless, and can take on the U.S. Army in his/her sleep". Three of them (with that one from earlier included, and who is also completely pathetic) in a ridiculous love triangle. Still, I always make a pint to judge a book by the plot rather than the characters, and will wait to read the second book with expectations of solving these issues.

The plot was great, lots of key historical points. The accuracy and detail that the author paid attention to was stunning. The first part is kind of slow, but it picks up in a BIG way at a certain point. The story takes us everywhere in the world and history, and it was a pleasure to read every page of it.

Plus, the code kinda has me hooked.
