Laced with Magic by Barbara Bretton

4.0

Book two in the Sugar Maple series is very good. The way the story is continued is really well done and makes sense with the original story and characters, but with a new story line and different challenges for Chloe and Luke to face.

Chloe's magic has finally come in, and she has won Luke, so she figures it's only a matter of time until the required daughter comes along to fulfill the prophecy and keep the town where it is.

But, of course, that would be too simple! Instead, the ex-wife Luke never mentioned shows up in town, telling him that Steffie, the daughter he ALSO never mentioned - and who died - has been calling for both of them to help her.

It turns out that Isadora, who's still banished but trying hard to come back to take the town through the mist, has captured Steffie's spirit and will only release her if Chloe releases Isadora from the banishment, which is really not a good idea.

The book is very fast-paced and exciting and the various supporting characters all choose sides in the Chloe versus Isadora battle, which makes for even more drama. The one thing you should be aware of if you read this one is that it does end in a cliff-hanger, so you'll want to be ready to have the third book handy once you finished this one. But it's a fun paranormal romance and a good read.
