I was looking for a light read while I’m ill, and this served that purpose well. It is the fourth book in a series. I haven’t read the others, but I don’t think it mattered. There were a few apparent spoilers for the earlier books, but the author so clearly catered for new readers I wouldn’t be surprised if they turned out to be not that spoily after all. I enjoyed the conceit a lot, and the wry humour was great, would have liked more of it. Maybe more could have been more made of the Hammer references, and I was disappointed not to get the second half of the play, maybe I just missed it, or didn’t understand why it was omitted. I paid 99p for this, and got more than my money’s worth.
