The Summoning
by Kelley Armstrong
Ooh yes yes, I like this story! Kelley Armstrong created a great atmosphere! Along with very well developed characters, even the characters I didn't like I understood! Beautifully written world. I especially loved how the main heroine, Chloe, had an actual flaw she had to overcome. So many times young adult writers give their girls silly things like frizzy hair as a flaw. But not Armstrong! She gave Chloe a stutter! Haha, it was great. Not so much to be annoying but enough to feel her struggle and then feel pride in her slow progress out of it. I also really enjoyed the way Kelley never made Derek's changes glamorous-they were hard to see, hear, and kinda gross. Which was perfect! Because that's way more realistic then lets say, glowing brightly and suddenly being a wolf.
The bickering between Derek and Chloe was so much fun too! She may have been shy but she took none of his bulls**t, pardon my language. The magic and mythical part of the novel was also very well written, that I easily bought in to the fact that it could be reality. In that world at least. I loved it! Totally recommend!
