10/10. I am obsessed with this book, it immediately became one of my favorites. I was looking for a fast-paced romantic high fantasy book and this definitely hit the spot. First of all, the world this book is set in is so rich and fascinating. I was a bit confused as to where things were going to go in the very beginning but once Fallon was introduced, it was clear. Also, I love that our heroine Cinnamon does not want to be a hero but is good at it anyway. She is like "I never wanted to go on an adventure, I wanted to have a quiet, peaceful life. However, since I got roped into this, I am gonna do it right but I'm not gonna be happy about it and I will complain the whole time." That is just too relatable. And then she was stuck with Fallon the demon who was hotly protective of her and just so sexy in general. Of course, I knew they were gonna fall in love but the way early on he claimed her as his wife but was still trying to give her the opportunity to come to the conclusion that she loved him to was just so delicious. I loved the possessiveness and the gentle convincing. Because all in all, Cin didn't have a *real* reason to not be with Fallon, just the vague "he's a demon who can and will kill people." Like, girl, you already knew that and are extremely attracted to him and like him so really what is the problem. Also, the steamy scenes are so delicious and mouth-watering. I love that they are always a culmination of the underlying tension between the two characters and the teasing is so yummy. Additionally, the side characters are just as lovable and rich as the main characters which is always so much fun. I especially love Usha and Felix since they both have such unique points of view in the narrative.  The battle scenes are also a good balance of high stakes and gore without being too much. I could not recommend this book more so please read it immediately if you like romantasy.

Back to the romance, I am obsessed with the fact that they were actually fated mates the whole time and that Fallon knew they were meant to be with each other from the moment that she awoke him from the madness. My favorite thing in any romance is when the guy is not only down bad but literally obsessed (in a mostly healthy way) with the FMC. Not only did he kill or was willing to kill for her, he treated her with such gentleness and reverence that made me weak in the knees. I usually like my men more nerdy and cowardly but Fallon must have awakened something in me because he is now close to the top of my book boyfriends list. I also love that when they mate or accept each other as mates that she gains some of his powers and it is seen as both of them growing stronger even though she is human compared to him being a demon. I also love that we had no idea he was a dragon, aka one of the most powerful demons to exist, until later on in the book.

Separate to the romance, I was fascinated by the concept that Myva was a false goddess and actually an undead witch causing the demons to be mad with bloodlust. Let me tell you, false deity and hero-worshiping is hitting a little too close to home right now so getting to see the people most affected come together as one to take back their freedom was very cathartic. I also just love all of the demons/monsters in general. I've always enjoyed mythical creatures but the fact that this book makes them seem so normal is so fun. Like one of my favorite lines is when Cin is running the kitchen on the ship and one of the Orcs snitches on another and he responds by calling him a snitch. Cin then has the realization that the stories of monsters and humans living together should have more of these mundane stories in addition to the ones from her mom's culture which feature adventures. The comradery and simple interactions are the parts of these romantasy books that I enjoy most rather than just action after action, so I'm glad we got plenty of it. I am so excited to read the next book in the series and I will be checking out this author for more.
