Tender Is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica
4.0

This book was wild from start to finish.

I’ve seen a lot of conflicting reviews where people wanted “more” or expected more from the main character. Usually, I would agree. I think we come to expect characters in books to have some grand revelation but I don’t think that’s what the author wanted here.

I think she wanted us to see ourselves in the main character. Are we holier than thou when it comes to judging others for eating the special meat and participating in societal norms?

Can we recognize the issue with experimenting on people but then turnaround and do “what needs to be done” for the sake of our own financial comfort?

Where do we draw the line on what’s okay, what we are willing to participate in?

How would we handle the grief of death while being surrounded by and being an indirect cause of the death of others?

To say this book only boils down to a discussion on veganism is selling it short. This book is much more than that.
