Reading some background about this book, you would think it was a completely unreadable dog's breakfast of a book. But, while it did lack some of the depth of earlier Bond books, I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

After being captured by the Russians and brainwashed, Bond returns to London and, after attempting to assassinate M, is rehabilitated and sent out to the Caribbean to track down and kill Scaramanga, a ruthless hired gun based in Cuba.

Despite the fact that Ian Fleming died before beginning the second draft of this novel, it is still an excellent read: great plot, vivid descriptions and fast-paced. Scaramanga's character could have been developed a little more (is he as ruthless as you think?), and there are times when you wonder, along with Bond, why he doesn't just do the deed. But it is still a page-turner, and well worth a look if you're into Bond.
