King of Greed by Ana Huang

4.0

“You will never face the world alone because I’ll be there for you, always and forever.”

This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year, and goodness, it did NOT disappoint. The hold this book has on my heart is insane. Although, there is ONE thing I did not like.

Alessandra and Dominic own me.

- marriage in crisis
- second chance
- billionaire romance
- groveling
- angsty

“You broke my heart, and you weren’t even there to witness it.”

— THINGS I LOVED:

The longing, the tension, the angst, the rekindling, the 'falling in love all over again' & 'being stronger than before'— all of it, I loved every part of it. Also, this insanely beautiful portrayal of 'winning at everything in life but losing the one you love the most', it was immaculate.

I was not ready for all that angst. I am a person who loves angst & Ana Huang served it, with all the royalties. What they felt for each other was so beautiful, so painful, and so complicated.

I was very emotionally involved in this book. Most of their scenes tugged at my heart. There's something about second chance romance that always makes your heart go weak and miserable, desperate for even a bit of action between the main characters or at least a smidgen of acknowledgement for each other's feeling. And coming back to Dominic and Alessandra, I think they did an amazing job at that.

Also, Roman's character was very interesting. I wonder how we are going to move forward with his character in the future.

Exile by Taylor Swift (ft. Bon Iver) is so Dom & Alessandra coded. Alessandra talking about how she gave so many signs, and Dominic talking about how he didn't notice any of it just screams Exile.
"Coz you never gave a warning sign" - "I gave so many signs"

— THINGS I DID NOT LIKE:
Why did Alessandra SLAP Dominic? Especially knowing that Dom has a history of abuse. I think it was very unnecessary & unacceptable. Alessandra is very much aware of Dominic's past. She knows that Dominic was subjected to physical abuse & violence as a kid. I don't know why Ana even wrote that. No, just no.

Overall, it was great. I think there are scenes that make you question everything about the said book. I really enjoyed it, and I admire Dominic & Alessandra, but I feel like Ale should have never even thought abt slapping Dom. It doesn't matter if it was her instant reaction.
