The Clockmaker's Daughter
by Kate Morton
Disclaimer: I am not very good at predicting who did what, why they did it, or working plots out. This generally makes for very good reading experiences as I am surprised and delighted by turns. This novel is complicated. The story is told through multiple view points and not in chronological order. It kept me guessing right up until the end, and I liked that.
I was reminded a lot of Picnic at Hanging Rock, but that may just have been the Victorian setting and the trajectory of one of the principal characters. There’s also an Art component, and murder, and theft, and several love stories. It’s all beautifully written.
