I actually found it quite impressive in the discipline to keep the scope small. It's a straightforward coming of age story set in the neolithic, resisting the urge most prehistoric fiction cant to make the protagonist important in the grand scheme of human development. This book sets out to tell a relatively small story and does it very well and compellingly.
