Band of Brothers: E Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne from Normandy to Hitler's Eagle's Nest by Stephen E. Ambrose

4.0

Thanks Paul for lending me this book - I know it took me a while to get through due to other commitments.

Although I served in the Air Force over nine years, I'm still more of a 'make love not war' type of person and don't usually read or watch military/war related material. When I watched the first episode of the HBO series, I was drawn in immediately for the story was compelling. My wife and I binge-watched them and were extremely moved by the story, the production, and the performances. What stuck me most from both the series and the book were the self-less actions of these individuals, the acts of leadership and courage, and mostly of their relationships as soldiers ("brothers"). Learning what these men went through during and after the war made me think "what would I have done? Would have I been that strong, committed, stay alive?" Picturing and mediating on the living conditions and what jobs they had to do makes feel extremely grateful for they they did for us. These men certainly serve as role models to me.

Thanks again, Paul, for the book. I'm getting ready to watch the series again...
