I read this when I was very young. I left it outside and it got wet. My father managed to save the copy for me and lay it flat under a giant mason jar. It always had that dent in it and I read it anyway. This book is so important to teach kids the idea of poverty, of cruelty, of love and perseverance. I love this story and its bravery.
