Love Through the Lens series book 2 follows NFL coach Shawn and pediatrician Lacey in a best friends to lovers romance. We are introduced to these characters as best friends of Maggie and Aiden in the previous novel however this story also works as a stand alone if you have not read the whole series.
I love this book sooo much! Both Lacey and Shawn are established in their careers and used to being independent, but seeing their friends fall in love has made them feel a little wistful for what they are missing. Having mature (over thirty) protagonists was very relatable as they struggled against societal expectations, and feelings of loneliness. Shawn is so sweet and thoughtful but he also has a very masculine, dominant side which he brings out in the bedroom. I loved seeing a MMC with mental health rep as it shows us that regardless of your gender or sex, mental health issues affect everyone.
My favourite part was when Shawn took Lacey home for the holidays as his fake girlfriend. I love Christmas and I love the fake dating trope so this was the best of both worlds. Making Christmas cookies, snowball fights and delivering presents was the perfect hit of festive nostalgia, providing the ideal tapestry for Lacey and Shawn to realise their feelings were more than an act. I think this is my favourite couple of the series so far!
