Mangaman by Barry Lyga, Colleen Doran

2.0

This could have been really cool-- I love the premise of a character from a manga universe entering our world, accompanied by all the chibi affectations found in manga. But from there? The plot is flimsy, and that's a generous description. The love story is sweet, but when you look at it with a feminist perspective, the culmination drove me absolutely up a wall with frustration. Visually, I loved the contrast between manga and western comic styles, but the end of the book, I wanted to throw it across the room with frustration.
