A gorgeously written noir, following a young girl's disappearance after her involvement with the tumultuous political climate of 1970's Mexico. Though the attempts to find her are what drives the plot, Moreno-Garcia still manages to flesh out the protagonists beautifully; gentle, lonely and a little pathetic, both Maite and Elvis manage to grow steadily on you. This is so different from Moreno-Garcia's previous novels I've read that it makes me wonder whether there is anything she cannot do.
