An absolute masterpiece - not only does Wilde construct a story which at once is morally powerful and subtly erotic (in both its explicit and allegorical fashions) in its passionate excess (through which he suitably caricaturises Victorian society), he does so with flowing, rich prose which is at once as bewitching as an acclaimed painting (not of Dorian Gray but more of like... The Mona Lisa) and as astonishing as the climactic soliloquy of a dramatic hero, marked for doom. All the emotions of Dorian are perfectly palpable - especially the moments where he arguably doesn't demonstrate any - and his desperation which bookends the plot adds a poetic touch to this already complex novel. A must-read :D
