The Waves
by Virginia Woolf
I didn't want this to end. Beautiful, mesmerizing, deeply wounding, and very difficult to read. I would have given up on V. Woolf if it wasn't for this book. The story follows the lives of six children as they emerge from the depths of childhood innocence to the stuffy desperation of adulthood. I understand that this book is not necessarily everyone's cup of tea due to the way it was written, however, I might have enjoyed it because of its overwhelming and chaotic nature. In this book you will be tangled with the characters' thoughts, emotions, and the imagery around them, and you will bloom with feelings. It's surprisingly very satisfying to be in six heads at once, taking notes and escaping from one life to another at your own leisure. I also need to add that I found it absolutely impossible to read this book if I wasn't in a very very quiet room. Surely never a bad idea to end the year with this book, and thus end my 2016 reading challenge.
