Clarimonde (Dodo Press) by Théophile Gautier
1.0

Boy (priest) meets girl (beautiful undead vampire). During his ordination. Wherein she tells him he's making the biggest mistake of his life, thus triggering the existential crisis that delivers him into her hands. She pretends to die and he is called for as a priest, reuniting them and causing him to believe he's living a double life: one as a priest, and another as a worldly gentleman living with Clarimonde. He witnesses Clarimonde sucking his blood, his priest friends convince him that she's a vampire, they exhume her grave and kill her.... and that's it. Plot is simplistic, transparent, and boring. Writing is simpering and unremarkable. Nothing new.
