Shadow Witch by Kim Richardson
2.0
I'm a sucker for a witch story, especially one that involves a younger witch living with older aunties in a magic house. That said, the main character is the very common annoyingly sarcastic type whose natural talent/power keeps her alive despite a lack of knowledge and experience after she makes dangerously impulsive decisions. Her hate "chemistry" with the local sheriff is another common trope, as is her friendship with the quirky half-vampire. I could leave the former, but I enjoy the sidekick banter of the latter. I'm hoping that the character and her relationships grow in complexity, as well as that she actually has to expend some effort to learn magic and be forced to be more cognizant of the costs (since a steep cost to dark magic is mentioned but never actually seems to significantly affect the main character or her choices).
