Freedom Soup
by Tami Charles
I checked this book out from the library for a New Year’s Read. It’s a delightful look into a Haitian independence tradition. It also introduces the topic of diverse holiday traditions.
We all loved it for its colorful illustrations and simplistic manner of tackling the complicated history of Haiti as well as the topic of slavery. It opened the door for some great discussion. And it includes the freedom soup recipe!
This is one we will read every January from here on out.
Recommended for 4 and up.
