The Turn of the Screw
by Henry James
3.5*
I read this novella in preparation for Netflix's new series, "The Haunting of Bly Manor." If this series is anything like 2019's "The Haunting of Hill House," I don't expect many similarities between the plots. But I still feel it was useful to have the basis of the original work.
Anyways, the book... It was good. I love a creepy English estate, fallen into ruin and all-but-abandoned by the owner because apparently all Brits have spare estates lying about. Add in creepy children, tales of murder and scandal, and a young woman with a questionable hold on reality and it's right up my alley.
Not a spoiler, but the ending left a lot ambiguous. I don't necessarily mind that, but I felt I wanted a little more of a hint in this case. Still, a very interesting read, though a somewhat difficult read based on the style of language.
