Five, Six, Seven, Nate! by Tim Federle
3.0

In this sequel to Better Nate Than Ever, readers get more of a behind-the-scenes look at the preparation for a major production. From all the drama to the rehearsals to the toll that working that hard takes on a person's body, there's not a moment of calm.

New characters are introduced and characters appearing in the first book are further developed making Nate's world all that more realistic. Nate and Libby's friendship is mostly long-distance and suffers the strains of Libby's relationship with one of the bullies that used to torment Nate.

Nate's sexuality is still a big part of this sequel as he is left questioning the evolution in his friendship with Jordan. The books leaves room for another title and I think readers will gladly keep reading whatever comes next for Nate Foster.

Recommended for grades 5-8, especially readers who are interested in theater or performing arts.
