I just wanted to start out by saying that I do not disagree with the message of this book. What turned me off was the delivery. While I believe that doing for others is volatile, I also believe that you have to make sure that you are filling your own bucket before filling anyone else's. As a recovering people pleaser, I often in my life have felt absolutely drained because I was only focusing on what I can do for other people while disregarding my own needs. It's human to have needs and it's human to take a step back and realize that you need to take care of your needs before others' sometimes. This could have just been me too, but the whole message about serving others came across as "here's what everyone else has done for me to make my life what it is" as opposed to speaking on how his service towards others has enriched his life.
