From Here to Eternity: Travelling the World to Find the Good Death by Caitlin Doughty

4.0

i absolutely LOVED this book. it was exactly how i expected it to be. it was interesting to see how each of these cultures approached death. the most interesting to me was japan, how they adapted to a big shift in their population. (also just realizing that she’s the same author who wrote ‘will my cat eat my eyeballs?’ which explains a lot!!)

i loved learning from it. it opened so many topics i never even thought of before. it was esp interesting for me to compare to how even philippines has such a fear of death, but the utter respect and love is still there. but still, the numerous superstitions of the ghost or spirit of a loved one visiting you that i grew up with comes to mind. which will def be a research topic i’d be interested in the future.

the epilogue did make me tear up a bit, but thats mostly bc im a very emotional person. it’s the thought of giving back to the person who gave you life, even after theirs has ended that makes me wanna give my mom a big hug.
