While the blurb of the book matched my taste in novels, I was thoroughly surprised and pleased by Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Fairies. The book is a fantastic exploration of the darker themes of the Folk and academic research, while also exploring the characters' flaws, motivations, and ruthlessness. A touch of romance and the tight knit sense of community that we desperately need rounds out the novel into a five-star read for me.
