Tokyo Ever After
by Emiko Jean
it took me a while to get into this since i wasn’t a fan of the writing style, but i don’t think i can realistically fault it since my main qualm was that it read like a YA book (which it is). however, about a quarter into it, i was hooked. a large part of my enjoyment probably comes from the fact that i can relate to izumi in a number of ways. more than that, though, it makes my heart happy to see a fun princess-diaries-esque story feature japanese culture so prominently, and i’m excited for the kids who are growing up now during a time when asian representation is more accessible than it was when i was growing up. overall a good time!! thanks to miss emiko jean for making my heart grow a couple of sizes <3
