By 20% I’d already lost complete interest in Johnny and Shannon.
It became painfully obvious sequels for the side characters were in the works with the sheer volume of ‘this character has trauma that we don’t speak about’, but yes I did keep reading for Gibsie, Joey, and waiting for the eventual blow up/resolution to the family issues.
I cared again about 70% of the way through for about 3 chapters.
Finally, if I had to read “like the river” one more time, I was personally going to drain the River Shannon.
Will I be reading the rest of the series? Yes, because thank god I’m done with these two.
Joey and Aoife seemingly have more depth to them - although one obstacle they’ll face was practically shouted at me in this book, and I don’t particularly like that trope. Don’t let me down with their story please 😭
