This was pretty propulsive--I read the whole thing in one night--but it suffered from the fact that I already read Buried in the Sky. This book doesn't have a protagonist but an ensemble cast, and we check in with them periodically enough to vaguely remember who they are. However, we don't meet some of the people who die at all, only get brief mentions of their names after the fact. This is a problem of access, of course: The reporter doesn't manage to interview teammates or relatives of those particular climbers. But in a book with a roving perspective that doesn't focus on one particular aspect, team, or personality, it feels lacking.
