Exquisite: The Poetry and Life of Gwendolyn Brooks by Suzanne Slade

Describes Gwendolyn Brooks' life from a small child in Chicago hearing her father read poetry aloud to winning several poetry prizes, culminating in the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. Includes support she received along the way from her mom to a teacher.

Beautiful, colorful, joyful illustrations by Cozbi Cabrera.

I would have loved to have more of her poetry quoted. "Clouds" is at the end, which provides a motif throughout the book.

Includes Author's Note, Timeline, Sources for Quotes, and Selected Bibliography.
