The Yearbook by Holly Bourne
5.0

My goodness, this book! I have never read any book that made me feel as if it was written specifically for me. I only bought it on a whim, because my sister wanted to use the second book at half price discount. Normally YA isn't my comfort read, I chose it because I wanted something different for a change. I was in a reading slump and thought maybe I should try something totally different than what I'm used to.

My gamble paid off this time. I really hit the jackpot!

This book surprisingly ticked all the right boxes for me. A quiet girl who never wanted to make a ripple - check. A girl who's always angry about the injustice around her and frustrated at herself for not having the bravery to do anything- check. A booknerd discussing books with another booknerd - check. A unique but superbly confident character to guide the timid main protagonist - check. Philosophical discussions in somewhat silly manner - check. It even touched on toxic behaviours, about bullying and family problems.

Everything was done so well. I cried a lot, laughed a lot, some parts even made me feel giddy, as if I was a teenager discovering love for the first time. This book reminded me why I should feel grateful to be literate and find reading a joy. It's definitely a book I'd re-read.

Holly Bourne, my hat's off to you. I'll be hunting for the rest of your books for sure.
