Like the cover, this is a dark book about abducted women. If you have triggers, I would look them up before starting this one. I only have had one book hit me  with a trigger, but this book made me feel sick in a few places, and I can imagine it might be sensitive to some readers.

Ellie Black returns, literally, to the town she disappeared from a couple years prior. I detective on the case, Chelsea Calhoun, has life experience with a sister who went missing, so she is very connected to this case. While trying to find out what happened to Ellie, Ellie shuts her off. She forges ahead with information she gleans from different sources, determined to get this case served justice.

This is a story about sisterhood, families and the way women are treated. I enjoyed reading this with @lbtheloverofbooks and listening to her interview with the author on YouTube. The author Emiko Jean mentioned that she had worked on this book on and off for 10 years and there is a second book with the detective to come.

“What about forgiveness?"
"How sometimes people do things that make it impossible for the world to forgive them." P91
