Tender Is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica
4.0
Tender is the Flesh is one of the most horrific books I have ever read. I knew going into this that TITF was a cannibal dystopian horror but the degree that the “processing plant” is described was enough to make me pick up a few vegetarian dishes while reading this book. This is a perfect example to express the desperate, contradictory and selfish nature of humanity. Marcos using “Jasmine” and creating a safe space for her and saving her, you start to think oh maybe he’s changed. He’s a vegetarian. He won’t eat meat. He found some puppies (which is REALLY DANGEROUS) He feels remorse possibly. No. Not at all. Once he finds out “Jasmine” is pregnant he takes care of her, makes her feel safe and once she has her child she never even gets to hold him. She’s dragged out by her hair, by the man who gave her a safe house and is now waiting to be slaughtered. He got what he wanted. Nothing else matters to him. A story as old as time. Completely heartbreaking.
