This is the 2nd book I have read by Ruta Sepetys and I really enjoy her writing.  This book is about a group of German refugees trying to escape parts of occupied German territory at the end of WWII.  Some are German citizens and some are refugees from occupied territory.  They eventually make it to a ship - Wilhem Gustoff - to make it to freedom.  The Wilhem Gustoff is torpedoed by a Russian sub as they are trying to escape.  Some survive and some do not.  The book is well written and you really feel for all the characters.  Highly recommend and I have put the rest of her books on my to be read list.
