This is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper

5.0

I was completely engulfed in this book from chapter 1. I devoured it in a mere 3 days, though I would have read it all in one night had my 7am wake-up call not been looming over my head.

This is a perfectly imperfect story of a family that is going through so many different things. They come together over the death of their father, but they bond and break apart over a myriad of things during the 7 day mourning period they spend together. The characters are incredibly relatable in the way that they have their good points along with their flaws. You feel for each of them at some points, and judge them at others. The entire novel feels comforting in how realistic it is. It is also filled with wonderfully crafted lines such as "I'll just get that look all parents reserve for non-parents, to remind you that you are not yet a complete person."

Excellent read, I highly recommend it. It's funny, engrossing, and beautifully witty.
