The Road by Cormac McCarthy

2.0

This left me wholly unsatisfied. Perhaps that is because I am a big fan of post-apocalyptic literature and television, and I felt that this book failed to conjure a convincing back story or a truly engaging narrative. I pitied the man and his son, and I liked the matter-of-fact stream of consciousness that The Road was almost written in. It was easy to feel 'in the moment'. I didn't like the lack of grammar or that there were no chapter titles (although without them, it was quite an interesting parallel between the reality of the book and the endless writing on the pages). Overall a tragic and hopeless story, with many flaws, but the journey itself between the man and his son, and the bond they share, did give the reader something special to consider and remember in the years to come.
